A 5x7inch Tintype of my 1963 Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar.   The guitar has seen a lot of mileage over the years - so much great music and a lot of scars!  The wet plate collodion process really shows the wear on the instrument and gives some insight into the historical nature of the instrument. This wet plate collodion photograph is made on a aluminum plate using 1850's technology.   You might notice the image is reversed which is a characteristic of tintype photographs.  The image is made from pure silver and is protected with a varnish made of frankincense and lavender oil.   With care it could last centuries!  The frame is handmade from recovered barn wood from Northern Wisconsin.
